Download some podcasts to listen to this weekend. It's a great way to enjoy an ad-free mix of music and talk for free.

Here are a few picks to get you started.

Poetry Foundation podcasts: You'll find a variety of different podcasts to choose from (audio and video; different themes). Most kids are fascinated by poetry -- particularly if they hear it read out loud -- and may be inspired to try writing their own.

Old-Time Radio Sci-Fi Stories: 1930s and 1940s radio sci-fi stories, brought back to life for the Internet generation. Great after-dark family entertainment.

CBC Podcasts: Enjoy the Comedy Factory, Spark, The Best of DNTO, and other great CBC podcasts. For the best in new music (at least according to the folks at CBC Radio 3), you'll want The R3-30 podcast.

TedTalks: Presentations by people with powerful ideas (e.g. "How Social Media Can Make History" by Clay Shirky).

92 Street Y: Interviews with and presentations by all kinds of fascinating people, including Eve Ensler, Ani DiFranco, Steve Martin, and George Carlin.
