Best Summer Ever: Day 37
Refresh Your Attitude With Some Free Summer Tunes + A Campfire Songsheet
Still in a bad summer weather, post-garbage strike funk?
Maybe some new summer tunes might help to lighten your mood.
Budget bordering on zilch? No problem. The best things in life are free, if you know where to look.
Here are two of my favorite hunting grounds for music that's free and totally legal.
CBC Radio 3: CBC Radio 3 is like a 24-hour music buffet. You click through and you help yourself to servings of live streaming music or podcasts to go (so you won't feel so bad about what streamed while you were away from your computer). It only took me two or three clicks to come across Campfire-themed podcast (with an accompanying songsheet). Imagine what other summery delights you could find and download for the weekend.
iTunes: You have to do some digging, but you can find all kinds of great stuff, including music, for free on iTunes. Be sure to check out the free song of the week (which changes each Tuesday and is offered via the front page of the store); iTunes University* and the various music podcasts (including CBC Radio 3 New Music Canada Track of the Day and NPR's All Songs Considered).
Note: Many universities have launched mini-sites or launch pages to promote their iTunes University offerings: www.queensu.ca/itunes/, www.itunes.ubc.ca, itunes.yale.edu, itunes.stanford.edu, itunes.extension.harvard.edu, itunes.berkeley.edu, itunes.columbia.edu.
