Quiet monuments and Other Visions: Maggie Groat at Erin Stump Projects
Maggie Groat is one of a seemingly-growing number of young artists here who have embraced collage -- in the broadest sense -- as their chosen medium, and her work currently on display at Erin Stump is beguilingly esoteric enough to carve out her own space. Groat favours the notion of monuments -- two pieces refer to them -- however humble, but likes to look skyward as well. An array of mirrors titled Moonlight Reflectors or A Proposal for Returning Moonlight Back to the Moon is as good an indication of her inner dreamworld as any. Dream on.
