Mark Martin will make his 1,000th NASCAR career start on Saturday night at Bristol. It will be his 746th Sprint Cup start (nee Nextel, nee Winston) to go along with 231 Nationwide (nee Busch) and 23 Camping World Truck (nee Craftsman) starts.
Martin is a great guy with the sponsors and is an inspiration to old guys everywhere (he’s 50 and looks it). But he’s never won a big-league championship because he doesn’t have the killer instinct. You have to go for the jugular and Martin can’t do it. He can’t close the deal. . .
Elsewhere, Brian Vickers wins one race and Red Bull signs him to a long-term contract.
Give me a break.
