Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso was summoned to appear before the World Motor Sport Council in Paris today as part of its investigation into allegations of race-fixing at last year’s Grand Prix of Singapore.
Alonso was reportedly "shocked" when he received a letter last Friday ordering him to appear before the council today.
The council is meeting to hear the results of an FIA investigation into allegations leveled by fired Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr. that he was instructed to crash at the Singapore race in order to bring out a safety car and help his teammate, Alonso, win the race.
Last week, team principal Flavio Briatore and chief engineer Pat Symonds resigned (or were asked to resign) and Renault announced it would not offer any excuses at the Paris meeting today - in essence, an admission of guilt.
Alonso has said he knew nothing of the plot.
