Bruce F. Mehlenbacher is a PR man’s PR man (or person). He comes from a racing family and is truly passionate about the sport. He does a great job keeping the media informed about what’s happening in his corner of it, which is primarily drag racing at the moment but he’s also done good work over the years for the race tracks and oval racing drivers he’s represented.
His email to me today pointed out that it’s quickly coming down to the final weekend of racing for competitors in the Pro Modified Racing Association and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts.
This will happen next Saturday and Sunday – a week this weekend – at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, south of Hamilton.
While Bruce Boland of Hamilton leads the PMRA points standings, Mark Nielsen, Jeff Roth, Dave Earhart, Jason Kalso and Eric Latino take up the other places in the Top Six and hope to keep the pressure on Boland, who will likely secure his third consecutive PMRA Championship during qualifying on the Saturday.
In Quick 32 Sportsman Series action, it’s not as clear-cut. A number of teams have an opportunity to win the championship. In fact, the top 14 teams all have a mathematical chance of surpassing the current leaders.
Jamie Bridge from Napanee leads the Quick 32 standings with 783. Next is Darrin Grubb of Pine River, with 762. Mitch Elliott of Woodstock is third with 757. Kevin Wicke of Stratford is fourth with 756 and fifth is Michael Kalin of Youngstown, N.Y.
Next Saturday’s racing will feature three PMRA qualifying sessions and round one of the Quick 32 Sportsman eliminations. Sunday will see the eight quickest PMRA Pro Modified teams return for the championship eliminations as well as round two of the Quick 32.
