They started practicing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend for next weekend’s qualifying sessions and the big race itself, the Indianapolis 500, which will be held May 30.
Three-time 500 champion Helio Castroneves was fastest, with a speed of 227 miles an hour and change. Canadians Paul Tracy (221.8 mph) and Alex Tagliani (221.4) were down the list.
Sure, you want to go fast at Indy. But where you start in the 500 isn't as important as it used to be and race trim and race speed are what really count.
I have a good feeling about Tracy this year.
