Flavio Briatore and Kimi Raikkonen, that’s who.
Briatore was banned for life from Formula One last year because of his involvement in the “crashgate” affair. This was later reduced to “after 2013”; then, apparently, it was reduced even further to 2011 as long as any role he played wasn’t managerial (he could sell sponsorships, etc.).
Well, after telling everybody in the world that he didn’t miss F1
and could care less (see a recent issue of Hello!
Anybody want to bet that Briatore isn’t right back in there running a team next year?
Raikkonen hasn’t been seen but his yacht “Iceman” is docked in the harbour – not far from Briatore’s Force Blue yacht (the biggest in the water, apparently).
Gaunt Brothers to run NASCAR Canada series
John Gaunt of
“My racing roots are in
“John and I decided over the holidays to field a car together, something we’ve always wanted to do. The (Canadian) series is really gaining steam, so it just seemed a perfect time to form GBR and go racing.
“John is a strong driver with a proven track-record, and we’ll be putting him in some good equipment. There’s no reason we can’t win a race this season. We’ll be disappointed if we don’t.”

Tagliani’s feeling better, thank you
Canadian Indy car driver Alex Tagliani has been discharged from
“Tags” kept his fans updated on his condition via Facebook postings (see my blog below) and continued his dialogue following his discharge. Here are a few more entries for those of you non-Facebook types:
“I got released from the hospital at 4 p.m. and went straight to the Fazzt Race shop to see my crew. It was a delay that I really didn't need and we have so much to catch up on before getting to the speedway this weekend. Made it home around 10 p.m., just in time to catch the last 5 minutes of American Idol!”
Then . . .
“Yeah, released but not that much better. I just don't know what to do with this! I can't seem to shake it, it's been 7 days and onto my 3rd Antibiotic. I know it all comes down to rest, I just don't have time for that right now. Thanks everyone for the well wishes, I'll look forward to seeing you all at the track, but sorry if I don't shake hands, don't wanna give anyone what I'm going through.”
And . . .
“Boy this thing is hanging on to me... slept good but woke up feeling like I have that brick back on my chest and I just can't shake this cough. Guess it's gonna come down to R and R and some homemade chicken soup. Just wish I had time to put me feet up right now!”
Weather puts at damper on Ohsweken opening
Ohsweken Speedway near
“Persistent rain and cool temperatures all week has prevented track staff from working on the racing surface and standing water in the pits and parking lot only indicate a recipe for trouble if we were to go ahead as planned.
“Even if the sun came out tomorrow morning we have had too much rain to prepare for opening night” owner Glenn Styres explained. “We would be putting race cars on a track that was just simply not prepared enough and the outcome could be costly in equipment and unsafe for the competitors. W will just go ahead and cancel now and take another run at it next week.”
Next Thursday will be test and tune night. Then on Friday, Ohsweken hopes to kick off the season with a full program of sprint cars, thunder stocks, mini stocks and bombers. The Dwarf Cars of the Stars Championship Tour North will fill out the program.
Vido website shows old races
A new website, racefanstv (not to be confused with racefantv, which is a Canadian-owned listings service) offers racing videos for your viewing enjoyment. As the Nurburgring 24-hours race is on this weekend, you can watch highlights of previous races (2002-2006) for free at http://www.racefanstv.com/channels/sports-car/various-classes/
