Star turn?

I am getting calls and emails from CBC types asking me if it's true that David Walmsley, who just started as Ottawa bureau chief two months ago, is returning to Toronto to join ... drum roll ... the Star.

Hey, I don't know. I just work here.

I can tell you this: We currently have openings for a City editor, National editor and Foreign editor. A veteran of the Daily Telegraph who was with the National Post as political editor when it launched, Walmsley could probably easily slide into any of the jobs.

After all, Christie Blatchford once described him as ''a loose-limbed madman."

When I broached the subject with editor-in-chief Giles Gherson, his response was: "David Walmsley coming to the Star is nothing more than a rumour so I'm not sure there is anything reportable. When there is a development about City or National, I will tell you first."

I am holding you to that, Giles!
