I'm happy that Cito is back, just when I lost all interest in the Jays this year, I'm suddenly back to watching games.

"The Jays cannot possibly go with another first-time GM and expect to compete for top-tier free agents."

I don't know...Theo Epstein, Brian Cashman, Mark Shapiro, Billy Beane, Kenny Williams, Dayton Moore, Josh Byrnes and Kevin Towers are all first-time GMs and they seem to have done OK. I don't think it has anything to do with a general manager's experience level as much as it has to do with the general manager himself, along with the dollars, the team's ability to contend, the city, and the various other factors.

For example, I'd love to see someone like Logan White or Chris Antonetti in Toronto. They've got the right mindset (the Beane/Epstein/Byrnes mentality), plus White in particular is a scouting maven (which the Jays desperately need) without (perhaps) the crusty attitude that JP has either always had or recently developed.

Wow. A baseball writer who still thinks a pitcher's performance is best judged by wins and losses. That's unfortunate. I won't be back.

Here's a case: Peavy, eight innings of shutout ball, five hits (all singles), two walks. Strikes out thirteen. The SD offense gets him ONE run (in fact, Peavy scored it!), and he's making it hold up. Hands off this carefully cultivated 1-0 lead to Hoffman, who gives up the tying run in the top of the ninth. SD scores in the bottom half, and Hoffman, who blew the save, picks up the win. According to you, Hoffman, by virtue of having recorded the win, had a better game than Peavy.
