LIND RECOVERING FROM BACK SPASMS

Jays' first baseman Adam Lind remains sidelined with back spasms, but has not been placed on the disabled list as the club senses an upturn of fortune.

“He's had a very good response to the treatment and the anti-inflammatories, so he can hit off a tee today, simulate some groundball type positions,” manager John Farrell said. “We look to progress to baseball activities further tomorrow, provided there's no lingering effects of any kind.”

The Jays, with two healthy players on the bench, may have been forgiven, but they stayed patient rather than place their cleanup hitter on the DL to call up another body.

“The biggest thing is when they rule out structural then we know we're dealing with muscle spasms, so we'll take the temporary approach,” Farrell said. “Hopefully it releases in time. He didn't have the exact same treatment that Jose (Bautista) went through (for his neck), but there were some injections that did allow that spasm to break up more readily.”

Lind, who blamed the injury on lack of core strength, was expected to report to the ballpark on the off-day in order to try and be ready sometime on the weekend in Minneapolis.

SCOTT PODSEDNIK ASKS FOR HIS RELEASE FROM AAA-LAS VEGAS

Minor leauge outfielder Scott Podsednik on Wednesday asked for his release from the Jays and was granted it after a month at Triple-A Las Vegas. The 35-year-old hit .254 in 14 games, with two steals. He had come to training camp as a non-roster free agent, but was sidelined early on with plantar fasciitis in his left foot and reported to minor-league camp for the long climb back.

“We had a handshake agreement as we do with a lot of our players,” Jays' GM Alex Anthopoulos said. “We don't have “out clauses” in our minor league contracts as a policy, but we do have what we call a common-sense rule, especially with guys like Scott, quality big league players.

“We were honest with him, 'Right now you're not the first guy up.' His agent called and explained it to him. We promised that we would always be transparent when we communicate.”
