Reyes claimed from Jays by Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday claimed lefthander Jo-Jo Reyes from the Jays on waivers and have added him to the major-league roster.
The 26-year-old had been designated for assignment by the Jays after being given every opportunity to claim the fifth starter's role coming out of spring training. The California native was 5-8, with a 5.40 ERA in 20 starts for the Jays before he was finally removed from the roster following a start in Texas on July 22, allowing eight runs in 4-1/3 innings.
Earlier in the season, Reyes, obtained from the Braves along with Yunel Escobar on July 13, 2010, had tied a major-league record going 29 consecutive starts without a victory. Reyes finally won on May 30 against the Indians, breaking a 13-game losing streak.
By being designated for assignment on July 24, it gave the Jays 10 days to assign his contract, release him or have him accept assignment to the minors.
