OAKLAND-On Sunday, the Blue Jays purchased the contract of righthander Chad Jenkins from AA-New Hampshire and sent righthander Jesse Chavez to AAA-Las Vegas. Jenkins was in uniform and available for the series finale against the A's.
Jenkins, 24, was 5-9, with a 4.96 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP in 20 starts for the Fisher Cats this year. In his last 10 games, he was 3-3 wth a 3.84 ERA. Jenkins was selected by the Jays in the first round of the 2009 draft (20th overall) out of Kennesaw State University.
Chavez had been called up on Saturday and was the winning pitcher in relief. Jenkins last pitched on July 29 against Altoona with no decision. Jenkins would become the eighth Blue Jays player to make a major-league debut in 2012.
