Jays acquire pitcher

The bullpen situation became more crowded for the Jays yesterday afternoon, when lefthander Bill Murphy was claimed from the Diamondbacks and added to the 40-man roster. To make room, Casey Janssen was placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Murphy, 26, spent most of the ’07 season with AAA-Tucson, going 3-3, with a 3.68 ERA in 54 games. He walked 43 and struck out 102 in 100-1/3 innings. In a brief callup to the D’Backs, he posted a 5.68 ERA in 10 appearances.

Lefty relievers in camp include B.J. Ryan, Scott Downs, Brian Tallet, John Parrish and Murphy.
