It's About Intensity
Today I was talking to Tal Rosenbloom, co-founder of Chris & Tal's Better Foods, about how he and partner Chris Bower got the idea for the beef-soy burger that is the basis of their company. He mentioned "intensity," described how his own level of intensity was pushed, formed and focused as he became more committed to his entrepreneurial efforts. Intensity, we agreed, is key to success as an entrepreneur. You can't be too over the top, but you have to demonstrate to potential customers and investors that you believe in what you're doing with every fibre of your being, and you're willing to leave no stone unturned as you search out the best way of producing and selling your product. Being an entrepreneur is demanding. You've got to have the fire in your belly. It's a creative process. It's stressful. But it's the ultimate fun, being in charge, creating your own reality.

I like the word intensity, but for me I prefer the term being focused. As a business owner it is very difficult to stay focused on getting major achievements accomplished. Yes, running the day to day portion of your business is an accomplishment in itself, but at the end of the week, did you actually push your business forward?
For us, this is the 6th week of 2007. If you take away the months of October – December where our focus is only on the day to day, then 15% (6/40 weeks) of the year is already over.
So while it is too soon to release concrete information about our progress, we are making some, although 3 weeks later than I had thought.
