Word-of-mouth referrals are one of the best ways to find work and grow your business.
Feb 5 – 9 is the world's first International Networking Week, and around the world business professionals and entrepreneurs will celebrate by polishing their networking skills at a variety of organized events.
Initiated by the world's largest networking organization – BNI – the focus of International Networking Week is to bring together representatives of government, businesses and the community to network with each other and to learn good networking practices.
In the Greater Toronto Area alone there are more than 75 networking events to choose from. For a full listing of business networking events visit www.biznetworknews.com.
A number of Toronto-area referral groups and businesses have networked to organize three networking workshops and a massive networking party on Tues, Feb 6, the world's first International Networking Day.
The Spirit of Networking features four networking experts sharing basic and advanced skills at Afternoon Networking workshops and a massive Evening Schmooze! party. You'll connect with more than 200 professionals and small business owners. It's being held at Centennial College Conference Centre (HWY 401 and Markham Rd) and advanced tickets are $40 for the afternoon and Evening Schmooze! or $25 for just the Evening Schmooze! Tickets are available at www.biznetworknews.com.
The key to successful networking rests with developing the right attitude: "Givers gain." "Give to get." "Help others and you help yourself." There are as many sayings as there are groups. Zig Ziglar said it best – you will get everything you want when you help enough other people get what they want. The top networkers practice this. Do what they do and you too will be on the road to success!

Atyab,
I agree with you 110%. I referred people to work, and I got quite a few of contracts by networking and word of mouth. There's a lot of truth to the saying "it's who you know".
