Mellow Yellow

Adameve Talk about a piss-off.

The Vatican's L'Osservatore Romano now blames The Pill for the decline in male fertility.

The pill "has for some years had devastating effects on the environment by releasing tonnes of hormones into nature" through female urine, said Pedro Jose Maria Simon Castellvi, president of the International Federation of Catholic Medical Associations, in the report.

"We have sufficient evidence to state that a non-negligible cause of male infertility in the West is the environmental pollution caused by the pill," he said, without elaborating further.

Well, of course the Vatican would say such a stupid thing because the Vatican is anti-contraception...and anti-science.

The research shows that many other factors are responsible for low sperm counts, including:

estrogen-like chemicals widely used in agriculture and industry. These substances are found in places ranging from drinking water to household products. Other environmental toxins that might affect male fertility are growth hormones used in livestock.

Have another look at that burger or steak sandwich Mister because it could be causing your man-boobs.

But the Pope et al. zeroes in on one thing, and one thing only. (The boldface is mine.)

The newspaper article said that, with such clear evidence of the adverse impact the pill's use has on the environment, manufacturers should offer more information about the ecological effects of the use of these synthetic hormones.

The article was based on a 100-page document published by the World Federation of Catholic Medical Associations to commemorate last year's 40th anniversary of the encyclical "Humanae Vitae" ("Of Human Life").

Titled "Forty Years of Humanae Vitae From a Medical Perspective," the document examines the consequences of men and women distancing themselves "from the fundamental concept of the encyclical and choosing to favor artificial contraception."

Much of the public is unaware that the contraceptive pill also acts as an abortifacient because it affects an embryo's ability to implant successfully, the article said.

The pill's function is usually described as suppressing ovulation, but in many cases, it said, the synthetic hormones in the pill create conditions that impede implantation and, therefore, are "abortive since they expel the small human embryo."

Sooner or later, the real agenda had to emerge.

Anyway, haha. Turns out that taking the pill might actually reduce cancer risk in women -- as well as reduce the excretion of hormones in their urine. So, even if it were true -- which it's not -- that the Pill is the direct cause of the ''feminization'' in men, in the long run, taking the Pill reduces the chance of that happening.

Nice try but you can't blame Eve for turning Adam into Madam.

UPPITY DATE: Dammit Janet and Alison @ Creekside flush out the Vatican's agenda.

What about Viagra? Hmmm?

Did you work as a tobacco lobbiest in another life? Just because there are other possible sources of the problem doesn't mean that the polution from the pill is not a true cause of the problem.

Oh well, didn't the Vatican side with the Nazis during the war?

These Vatican guys always manage to cloud the issues by the way they talk about things. By the time the fertilized human egg makes its way into the uterus, it is a blastocyst - it's got 70 to 100 cells; one line of cells will become the embryo and one the placenta, if implanted. It's not a tiny perfect baby getting flushed away by contraceptives.

Next thing you know, the Roman boys will be blaming priestly pedophilia on the drinking water.

doesn't mean that the polution from the pill is not a true cause of the problem.

Try again. It's far more likely that estrogen mimicking compounds (which, mysteriously are commonly coincidental with hydrocarbon processing to produce common products like - oh plastics) are a bigger part of the picture than the estrogen that women flush from their bodies daily.

(Yeah - those plastic testes you hang on the back of your truck are feminizing your truck as you drive it! ;-)

The Vatican is irrelevant. The low fertility rate is because women choose to have less children through birth control and abortion, particularly in The West. As a consequence, women as a whole, who so deride the abomination of pregnancy, have an active part in their self-extinction within 2-3 generations....particularly white feminists...nice contribution to our world.

No, Sooey Sweetie, the Vatican did not side with the Nazis. Plenty of information, but this one will do for starters.

The major religion the Nazis actually came close to "siding with" was Islam. There's a huge amount of embarrassing material there.

After all, the Arabic version of Mein Kampf is a best seller in the Middle East, and "Kampf" is translated by "Jihad". The various definitions of the two words taken together have an almost perfect fit.

With Hamas about to do a "Fuhrerbunker" in Gaza (I hope the Israelis follow through this time), that analogy is particularly apt today.

"Much of the public is unaware that the contraceptive pill also acts as an abortifacient because it affects an embryo's ability to implant successfully, the article said."

This is heavily disputed.

See http://www.aaplog.org/decook.htm, which is a 'pro-life' site, and points out that it is not at all clear that eggs ever get fertilized when women are on the pill, let alone prevent implantation.

And, of course, granting human rights to a few non-sentient cells is always going way too far.

Broadsides by Antonia Zerbisias

Her career ambition as an opinionator dates back to Grade 9 when a cartoon commentary on a teacher resulted in her suspension from high school. The principal sent her home with a note calling her "rude, obstreperous and bold." Her parents were neither amused, nor surprised. Once she was punished for being that way. Now she makes it pay. And, because she can take it as well as dish it out, she wants to hear what you have to say. Fire away!
