Antonia Zerbisias has been a Star columnist since 1989 but has been telling people what she thinks ever since she could open her mouth. Her career ambition as an opinionator dates back to Grade 9 when a cartoon commentary on a teacher resulted in her suspension from high school. The principal sent her home with a note calling her "rude, obstreperous and bold." Her parents were neither amused, nor surprised. Once she was punished for being that way. Now she makes it pay. And, because she can take it as well as dish it out, she wants to hear what you have to say. Fire away!
Grr. Damn possessive vs plural... Pretend that says "countries", please.

'ts alright. The language police gave it a handwave. Now, if you'd spelled "Steinem" wrong, I guess you'd have an open net.

Grammar lapse forgiven when content sums up so much of what I feel in one astonishingly eloquent sentence.
Bloody brilliant, sooey.

“Comment of the month, maybe the year, maybe ever....”
Wow! Maybe, however, I can play wren to Sooey’s eagle ......
OK ......
“It really makes you wonder about the persistence of anti-Feminism in the west when we have the advantage of seeing how medieval [oh, come, come, Sooey Sweetie, Dark Ages pre-medieval, more like] life is for everyone in countries where Feminism doesn't exist.”
That’s all very well, but what makes me wonder a lot more is the way in which so many feminists are quite happy to allow mass immigration [yes, I know, but nobody ever answers this point] from cultures that appear quite content with their “[Dark Ages pre-]medieval life”, and would continue living it here. This problem is compounded by the phenomenon, recently noted by Tarik Fatah and Salim Mansur, of Canadian (and British, American, Swedish, etc.) officials competing to curry favour with representatives of these very groups:
http://www.cjnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16381&Itemid=86
worth quoting:
“Fatah and Mansur also blasted comfortable Canadians who fail to stand up for traditional values and confront jihadists among them. ... Muslims like himself [Fatah S&SD] argue that it’s nonsense to accept the premise that women should be able to testify in court while their faces are covered by burkas, yet women’s groups rush to the defence of these women ..... there is a tremendous amount of white guilt. The intelligentsia in this country in a selfish way tries to assuage this guilt. It caters to the most idiosyncratic behaviour of the immigrant and practices the racism of lower expectations. It sets standards of behaviour for our community, but when dealing with immigrants and especially the Muslim community, it does not expect them to live by the same standards.” ..... He said mosques treat women as second-class citizens – something that would not be tolerated in the broader society – yet still retain charitable status.”
meanwhile “ .... one senior person at the Ontario Human Rights Commission “is openly supportive of the Islamist cause and believes in Shariah law,” [Stoker, you Smoker, Ezra Levant knows whereof he writes] .... In a question-and-answer period, Fatah was asked why moderate Muslims don’t demonstrate against their radical co-religionists. Turning the question around, he asked why mainstream Canadians don’t demonstrate against the Taliban. Why would such demonstrations be expected of Muslim immigrants who are trying to make a living and who escaped tyranny? Would an Algerian, who escaped from a country where hundreds of thousands were killed by religious extremists protest against the leadership of a mosque that was controlled by those very factions from Algeria and risk the lives of their families in Algeria?”
... and if Western feminism is actually joining forces with representatives of these cultures, then anti-feminism becomes commonplace and rational.

Luckily, that's one big crazy completely deluded rightwing nutcase anti-feminist "if"..., TSahSD.
Besides, hate speech against women isn't even covered under regular hate speech laws. Relax.

Sooey, I'm surprised people overlooked your spelling of "persistence". Your possessive/plural error would have gone unnoticed by most of the people that read Antonia's blog.
To think that the comment of the millenium had two errors when it was such a brief comment!!!
I would encourage you to open up your own blog to comments. I think you would find that to be mutually beneficial.
