Now I lay me down to ...
Okay, I will dispense with this one very quickly because it is impossible to avoid some very naughty puns.
Suffice to say that, for good Catholic couples, getting on your knees in the bedroom is acquiring a whole new meaning.
Roman Catholic couples are being encouraged to pray together before they have sex.
A book published by a prominent Church group invites those setting out on married life to recite the specially-composed Prayer Before Making Love.It is aimed at 'purifying their intentions' so that the act is not about selfishness or hedonism.
Considering that the Church is against contraception, maybe couples could also pray that sex not lead to pregnancy, at least not this time.
Oh, lead me not into temptation to keep going with this one.

Now I lay me down to… truth
As someone who hasn’t darkened one of St. Peter’s franchised doorsteps for more than two decades, I make an unlikely, very inconsistent, and especially unofficial defender of the Catholic Church. For some reason, though, my long and continuing absence from the Church doesn’t seem to stop me lately from defending her whenever I perceive that she is being attacked.
Not that I think ‘she’ (as we and our ancestors have squandered inheritance of her) is perfect, and the post to which I am now responding does not particularly offend my hypocritically sensitive and backslidin' Catholic heart. It does, however, seem to begin to tread water where people like Oprah Winfrey apparently think they can walk on it. I am referring to the kind of armchair criticism of the Judeo-Christian Bible that Oprah has become well known for, many examples of which can be found on YouTube quite easily with almost any intuitive search words.
Oprah seems to think she is smarter than Moses, and probably brighter and of higher morality than a few, if not all other bible characters and/or writers. I find it quite astonishing that people like Oprah seem to believe there is little if any value left in ancient wisdom, and of course I am not just referring to the ancient wisdom of the Judeo-Christian Bible.
However, considering that the Catholic Church is not only the oldest surviving major church in Christendom, but also the only one that seems to hold Mary, mother of Jesus, in high regard, I find it odd when defenders of equal rights for any group or collection of groups can’t find something more worthwhile to do than to bash her, the Catholic Church, and a Judeo-Christian Bible they do not seem to understand very well.
