I thought RepublicansForRape.org(...y?) was just a spoof website. It has a “mostly satire” disclaimer but it really is published to warn the American public of the dangers of strengthening anti-rape law. Apparently, the public danger is that the safety of private companies and defense contractors would be threatened as they try to conduct the business of protecting another woman, “America.” Is Don Mclean a prophet? I’m sure I heard him say bye-bye miss American Pie back in the 1970’s.

"Do you recall what was revealed the day the music died?" ...Don McLean

Have you read Melissa McEwan's take on it that site: http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/2009/10/rape-is-hilarious-part-46.html

I'm rather in agreement with her. The site is Not Okay.

Thanks Luna but on this we disagree.

I think the site puts a lot out there that wouldn't reach people any other way.

This would not be the first time I am not in synch with the Shakes sisters.

Oh fair enough, Antonia. Life would be boring if everyone agreed all the time. :)

And you're right that it does reach people it wouldn't otherwise reach, which is a good thing. But it does seem to minimize the damage it does by making a joke of it.

Broadsides by Antonia Zerbisias

  • Antonia Zerbisias has been a Star columnist since 1989 but has been telling people what she thinks ever since she could open her mouth. Her career ambition as an opinionator dates back to Grade 9 when a cartoon commentary on a teacher resulted in her suspension from high school. The principal sent her home with a note calling her "rude, obstreperous and bold." Her parents were neither amused, nor surprised. Once she was punished for being that way. Now she makes it pay. And, because she can take it as well as dish it out, she wants to hear what you have to say. Fire away!
