Defending the right to pre-life
Well that's that then. (I added the links and the boldface.)
Defiant and unapologetic, a man accused of shooting a Kansas abortion provider confessed
to the slaying Monday, telling The Associated Press that he killed the doctor to protect unborn children.
Scott Roeder, 51, of Kansas City, Mo., spoke to the AP in a telephone call from jail, saying he plans to argue at his trial that he was justified in shooting Dr. George Tiller at the abortion provider's Wichita church in May.
"Because of the fact preborn children's lives were in imminent danger this was the action I chose. ... I want to make sure that the focus is, of course, obviously on the preborn children and the necessity to defend them," Roeder said.<SNIP>
His confession came on the same day several strident abortion opponents released their "Defensive Action Statement 3rd Edition" that proclaims any force that can be used to defend the life of a "born child is legitimate to defend the life of an unborn child." The statement's 21 signers demand Roeder's jurors be allowed to consider the "question of when life begins" in deciding whether lethal force was justified.
Among the signers are Eric Rudolph, James Kopp and Shelley Shannon — all serving prison time for targeting abortion doctors.
Lee Thompson, attorney for the Tiller family and executor of his estate, has said allowing such a defense would "invite chaos and be tantamount to anarchy." The Kansas Supreme Court rejected such a defense in a 1993 ruling over an abortion clinic trespassing case.
So, here we have a bunch of domestic terrorists, bonafide members of the American Taliban, attempting to justify murder based on who 'they deem to be innocent and demanding that a jury decide whether ''who'' actually exists.
Um, newsflash you crazies. Abortion is legal in the US -- although the American Taliban in suits and Congress are working hard to fight that.
More on the latter soon.

From real wine to purple Kool-Aid?
I am aware the Catholic Church is pro-life, of course, but why is it that I never hear news stories reported of Catholic Church members murdering abortion doctors? I'm not saying it would be unimaginable or necessarily outside the laws of nature, I just haven't seen any news headlines saying another Catholic off-ed another medical professional ... solving nothing, btw.
And is it because this particular incident of murder and the Stupak Amendment are mostly American stories that no mention is made of Canadian Taliban? Or is no mention made of Canadian Taliban because there is no distinguishable difference between American and Canadian Taliban? It does appear that headquarters is in America, especially since the most favoured (or preferred?) leaders among cardholding Canadian members are American idols. Hopefully, there is a diplomatic dialogue going on somewhere, and/or some kind of NATO peace-keeping troop equivalent working on placating the North American Taliban.

WHY do they keep calling themselves "ProLIFE". They are NOT Pro-Life! They may be Pro-Pregnancy - but even that would be a stretch, since that would include good nutrition, safe housing & neighbourhoods, living wage, access to good prenatal care, etc.
No, They are just Pro - Fundamentalist - Christian, I guess.

I sometimes use the word "fundamentalist" incorrectly, at least when I use it to refer to the most extreme, potentially violent/deadly, loose-cannon type branches of religious faiths, political ideologies, etc. Not so much the orthodoxies of these various types of institutions as those extreme branches, which appear to be brand new incarnations, or maybe just very manipulated forms of different things using old, previously respected labels.
For example, how did extreme right wing Evangelical Christians first come to be labeled as fundamentalist? Did they used to follow a literal interpretation of the bible?

John Dominic Crossan does a good job in the following video of explaining the dangers of whatever it is that has become known as "fundamentalism," a word somehow derived from fundamentalist.
