Happy Birthday Gloria Steinem!
Apologies for the shaky quality of this video, shot during a speech Gloria Steinem gave last year at the 2009 William K. Rashbaum, MD, Abortion Provider Award Ceremony.
No apologies for her words.
How I wish that this warrior woman might have laid down her arms by now because the struggle for women's equality had been won. But we are going backwards, as we have seen both in the U.S. and Canada this week.
P.S. The comments on the YouTube site -- like many of the comments that never get posted on this blog -- are indicative of how much hatred there is for women. Consider yourself warned.

What perfect timing. And how utterly tragic that ALL these years later, we are repeating, again, and again, and once AGAIN, the very same fight to control our own lives and the very same struggles that Gloria has helped us with for so long.
You comment: "How I wish that this warrior woman might have laid down her arms by now because the struggle for women's equality had been won." almost brought me to tears, after this hideous week in the Canadian Parliament with the men still playing games with women's very real lives.
Thank you for posting this, Antonia.

Hahahahahahaha
So the Ann Coulter tour finishes on Gloria Steinem's birthday!
Marvellous! Ann Coulter is worth a whole army group of Gloria Steinems. Noone can possibly take Gloria Steinem seriously after reading Ann's masterful (mistressful?) juxtaposition of her and Phyllis Schlafly in Slander (my copy now signed by Ann herself).

Sad is the person who takes a mean spirited, attention starved sociopath like Ann Coulter with any degree of seriousness.

sadder still is the person whose sense of proportion is so lacking as to see a multiple New York Times bestseller who is also charming in person as an "attention starved sociopath"
