Challenger may enter this year's Targa Newfoundland
The above headline is about the only good news from Chrysler's One Lap of America entry this weekend.
It started with Chrysler's Canadian design guru, Ralph Gilles, and SRT's suspension expert, Erich Heuschele, entering a preproduction Challenger SRT8 in this year's One Lap mocked up just like the car from the 1970's cult classic, Vanishing Point.
Gilles is a two-time veteran of the Targa Newfoundland rally, and Heuschele ran One Lap in 2006.
Unfortunately, the white Challenger only lasted until the second event at Road America Saturday, after leaving the track and finally resting atop a tire barrier (more pics here.)
Heuschele, was unhurt. And as of early this morning, a bone stock orange Challenger SRT8 appeared as the white Vanishing Point car's replacement. Reportedly, Gilles was able to drive the wrecked white car 300 kms to a repair shop.
Gilles and Heuschele will continue on in One Lap in the orange SRT8, but can't keep any points they earn.
But the big news for Targa fans is that Gilles confirmed that once the white Challenger is put back together, it "will likely" be entered in this year's Targa in September.
Anyway, our hearts go out to "Super Soul" and "Kowalsky" as they keep on rollin' on...
