Live from Detroit!: New Karma convertible not called the Chameleon

Fisker3Fisker1 Fisker2 Resisting the obviously strong urge to call it's convertible version of its Karma electric sedan the Chameleon, the world’s first plug-in hybrid convertible will be known as the Fisker Karma S Sunset.

The S Sunset is based on the 2011 Karma production sedan, said former BMW and Aston Martin designer turned automaker, CEO Henrik Fisker.

With Fisker’s Q-DRIVE, designed and engineered by Quantum Technologies, you can allegedly drive the Karma 80 kms on a single charge to its lithium-ion battery pack, and packs up to 403 hp from two electric motors.

As such, the sedan is capable of 0-96 km/h in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h.

Not planned for Canadian sales, in the U.S., the Karma four-door will go for $87,900 greenbacks.

Safe to say, Fisker will want more than that for the sexier S Sunset.

Driving would be easy

Sorry, unlike Karma, I couldn't resist...

Pretty sexy machine, but at $88 K? Wouldn't they be better off to sell at a lower price to expand the market? Not many can afford that kind of coin for a car. Why not cut the price in half and sell to a market 10 times the size?

While on the topic of luxury cars, mind if I rant a little?

It just rots my socks to see Cadillac getting all this new product and Saab gets what? A cosmetically altered 9-5 called the Griffin. What a disgrace, no wonder Saab is in trouble GM has starved it of new product for 10 years.

I own a Saab 9-5 wagon and its a great car. Certainly much larger and more fun to drive than anything at the price. In a stretch I could probably have bought a 3 Series wagon or A4 Avant, but with 2 big Labrador Retrievers, I doubt they would be large enough. So I didn't even bother test driving them.

GM could have made Saab the Swedish BMW, instead its just ignored it until its too late. Makes you wonder why they bought it in the first place.
