The 75-pound (34 kg) endangered turtle was discovered floating in a nearby channel May 5, 2013, and rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The reptile was then taken to the Florida Keys-based Turtle Hospital for treatment that included administering antibiotics and Beano, a human dietary supplement used to reduce digestive tract gas.
