I second that emotion.

Someday Andrew Coyne and I are going to launch an online Canadian political and DIY auto-repair mag. He hasn't said "yes." But I haven't yet explained about the $23-million grubstake; AC's title ("His Imperial Majesty, King of Kings, King of Zion, Invincible Lion of the Seed of Judah, Branch of the Tree of Solomon and Implement of the Holy Trinity" - I'm cribbing here from Haile Selassie); and the Antibes villa HQ.

I agree with Pierre Trudeau that the government should stay out of the bedrooms of the nation. This is irrelevant and a non-event.
Layton's response of "smear" is, of course, hypocritical of him. That response does display more of Layton's character, but just visiting any kind of massage parlour doesn't say anything about him as a politician and is irrelevant.

Er Cangar - get your mind out of the gutter. Massage is a respected service - and only a tiny part of the industry is pseudo - as a front for offering any sexual favours. D. Olive has admitted he has used REAL massage services. More to the point - no-one has shown evidence of any prosecution, attempts at using political office to avoid charges - or anything else that could be illegal or inappropriate.
What I do see here - and Police Chief Bill Blair better follow up hard on this and demonstrate that his organization is not as sleazy as this game makes it appear - is the likely abuse of his privileges by a Metro Toronto Police Officer - currently serving or retired - who broke all the rules that govern his office to presumably attempt to help his favoured party - the CPC!

Wabbit, I just don't care what kind of massage place it is. The facts reported on the news include: "police raid", "known baudy house", "Layton completely naked" while the "woman left the room with a wet tissue in her hand". Okay, that sounds different than an ordinary massage. But, like I said, I really don't care. Jack should have simply said this is a private matter and no one's business, because that is exactly what it is. By saying "smear job" he just reminded me of the "smear jobs" he pulled on others.

Wabbit, not sure I agree with you about the investigation. Okay, yes, it would definitely be useful to know who is behind this release. I admit I put Sun Media and which war room acts like this together and make an assumption, but maybe I am wrong. However, did the police have to announce they were investigating this? That just bring more headlines, more details and keeps it in the news. I think they should have just quietly starting investigating. Since they didn't, I put Sun Media and unethical war room and Toronto and/or Provincial Police Chiefs together and jump even quicker to a conclusion. I think announcing the investigation is just more of the same awful stuff.
Since I see there are NDP faithful here and it is always useful to strive to look clearly - surely awful stuff and publicly announced police investigation must remind you of one of the parties and party leaders involved in this election, no? Life is very often unfair, but sometimes what goes around, comes around. Too bad more leaders don't keep that in mind. Fortunately for Jack, this is small potatoes compared to what he wielded.

Cangar - you don't get it - clearly!
First I am not an NDP supporter - though in the current climate - I probably trust them more than the other two parties.
As to the investigation - when something like this comes out - at this time and in this manner - and when no charges were laid then later or now - I know that it is A SMEAR! Plain and simple!
OK - it seems that dirty politics is a major factor in this campaign. Sad but true - but for some-one who is paid and trusted to enforce the law - to go out of his (or her I guess) way to dig out old notebooks for something that never was regarded as prosecutable - for me - is so sleazy - the officer who did that - should lose his job AND his pension. No ifs ands or buts about it! Done! Now THAT is justice!
I have few friends who are coppers - and they would agree with me on this!

Yes, I agree it is a bad smear. Not as bad as what Layton did to Oliver in 2006 because this one appears to be true whereas that one was fabricated by the NDP. It's even worse when you smear someone with complete falsehoods and keep the truth from coming out until after the election. But there are similarities because of the timing and that is bad.
