Victoria Day fireworks, 2008, at the Princes' Gate, entrance to the Canadian National Exhibition, world's oldest continuously operated exhibition, and one of Toronto's most prominent west-end landmarks. "Winged Victory" atop the central arch monitors traffic jams on nearby Lakeshore Boulevard and the Gardiner Expressway. Though Victoria, longest-reigning British monarch, did not visit Canada, grandson Prince Edward, future King Edward VIII, was scheduled to visit, in 1927. A last-minute change of plan had Edward's his younger brother, future King George VI (of The King's Speech fame), accompanying him, and the new Gates were hastily renamed Princes' Gates from Prince's Gate.
