Condo style salad

IMG_2073

(My condo farm lettuce mixed with market-bought arugula. There was also some chickweed growing in there - not sure how that happened -  but it was a pleasant surprise.)

My lettuce bucket had become incredibly crowded so I have started thinning out my tiny crop so some of the plants have a chance to thrive. Baby lettuce is delicious. The radishes are going down next. IMG_2079

Katie and I transplanted all of my vegetables on the weekend using containers we found in the recyling bin in my building. I will be posting photographs and instructions at some point.

The vegetables are doing much better than I expected and seem totally capable of thriving in spite of being cursed with a neglectful, clumsy mother.

Nature is amazing. It also seems to have a sense of humour.

Have you checked out Windowfarms.org. It would be great if you could get one of their windowfarms kits and try it out and report on well it works. Then maybe more people will grow vegetables in their condos too!

^interesting site - thanks for the link!

Emily vs. the City

  • Emily Mathieu has big plans – big, complicated, somewhat foolhardy plans - to break away from her desk and become more self-reliant. How to fend off a dog attack, butcher your own meat and splint a broken wrist are just the beginning.
