Unfortunately, these types of moves seem to be common in the pharmaceutical industry. There are few laws to control how medical studies are conducted. At least here in Canada we don't market drugs in commercials like they do in the U.S.

The risk of heart disease associated with certain drugs doesn't seem to be taken too seriously a lot of the time -- even by patients. I know some women who take the birth control pill and they don't regularly get check-ups to assess their risk ie) get blood pressure checked and blood taken. Obviously Avandia is a different situation, but my point is that we seem to be desensitized some times to the potential dangers of certain drugs.

What a waste of time and money testing a drug that can potentially cause problems.
