12 Rounds with Shane Mosley
New feature alert: 12 Rounds, the first in a recurring series in which we spend some quality time with some of the biggest names in the fight game, then post the MP3 so you guys can hear them speak for themselves.
The first man up is the odd man out -- WBA Welterweight champ Shane Mosley.
Two and a half weeks ahead of his title unification fight against the undefeated Andre Berto, Sugar Shane maintains that neither Manny Pacquiao nor Floyd Mayweather can claim to be the best fighter in the world until one of them beats the best fighter in the welterweight division.
That would be Mosley.
And he has a point.
Last January Mosley thrashed Antonio Margarito, who until then had ruled the welterweight division with a concrete fist.
But that convincing win didn't set Mosley, now 38, up for a superfight with Pacquiao or Mayweather.
Instead, it led to a year on the sidelines, during which he openly campaigned for a Pacquiao showdown, Kanye Wested Mayweather's post fight interview, and wound up settling for a bout with Berto.
Naturally, he's not happy with the stubbornness that scuttled the Pacquaio-Mayweather fight and has a simple solution for two fighters he feels are avoiding him.
"If they don't want to fight each other, the next guy to fight for the big money is Shane," he said. "They're trying to wait for me to get old. I'm not getting old. I'm ready to go."
And according to the L.A. Times, Mayweather might be ready too.
But first Mosley has to deal with Berto, and to hear him discuss that bout as well as his thoughts on Mayweather, Pacquiao and Bob Arum, click the link below.

Shane needs a big fight, I hope he fights Pacquiao next because Floyd will not fight him. At this point of his life and career, Shane needs a big paycheque.
He's of the best personalities outside the ring in boxing who in recent memories, cut in with Floyd's post fight interview and challenged him out in the open.

i think shane would have to think a million times before fighting against pacman because if he tries im sure he cant enjoy the million purse he will receive after pacman beats him. im afraid of him , he may die against pacman or he will be comatose for life so dont talk to much shane coz im sure donot pacman donot afraid of whom he will be facing in the ring ..... REMEMBER ???/ ITS UP FOR MY PROMOTER WHOM I WILL FIGHT NEXT, MY JOB IS TO FIGHT MY BEST IN THE RING WHOEVER MY PROMOTER WANT ME TO FIGHT .... THAT REASON IM AFRAID OF SHANE COZ HE MAY DIE IN THE RING WITH PAC AND THAT HE CANT RECEIVE HIS WAITING FOR A LONG TIME MILLION FIGHT PURSE.

I'd pay a release fee to Berto if I were Shane & fight Floyd on March 13 to totally upstage Arum & his ridiculous grudges against two fighters he once promoted, De La Hoya, head of Golden Boy Promotions, & Mayweather, who had Golden Boy repping him for the Pacquiao fight & owner of his own promotional firm as well.
Many forget Manny tried to leave Bob Arum to go to Golden Boy sometime ago, but Arum shrewedly got him back.
His high visibility fighters seem to always want to leave The Arum Plantation to earn on their own, which should actually be their right...But not to Bob Arum!
So...Good luck, Shane...Give Berto $2M to step aside so you & Floyd can make it happen in Vegas on the 13th of March... I am picking Floyd to beat you, but I know you will make it a good show, especially as long as you don't have any leftover BALCO products in the basement!
Which PPV will YOU chose:)?!?!?

Morgan,
Great stuff on Paq and Floyd. Struggling to find ways out of it, as opposed to being desperate to make it happen-seems to be the order of the day. You know whats going to happen with Shane thou right? He's not going to beat Berto. Styles make fights, and matchups determine outcomes-this isnt a good match-up for Shane. In my extra amatuer opinion. And while grotesque to consider-there will be a human interest component to this fight as well. I dont see Berto losing.
Has there ever been a more obvious fight to predict- like round for round- than Paulie vs Floyd? Paulie talking trash, getting touched until being knocked out? More predictable than Avatar... still holding out hope for Floyd vs Paq.
On a positive note, glad to see Taylor take some time off. I hope his defenition of time is the same as mine in this case-forever.
