My legs are pasty white, making my leg hair look more coarse and dark than it actually is.
I would need several consecutive days in the sun and a tub of baby oil to darken the skin and bleach the hair. I don't have that kind of time.
I could eliminate part of the problem with a razor, like one of those swim or bike enthusiasts. But I don't particularly need to be more aerodynamic. Plus, as a matter of principle, I will not shave body hair. (It's a moral stand I can easily take because I am not gorilla-hairy. Like, I don't have ear hair, or back hair that you can see from a distance. Yet.)
So I wear jogging pants at the gym.
Even though it's humid (and getting more humid, it seems, each week) and there is only one rotating fan to cool the room containing 20 treadmills, ellipticals and other machines, and I am sweating all out of proportion to how much I exercise, I will not wear shorts.
I am sure I would be more comfortable, could run longer, keep from overheating and getting soaked by the rivers of sweat running down my back and in my eyes, if I cared less.
But being sopping wet and near cardiac arrest is a small price for vanity, right?

Really?
I don't care. You're at a gym, you have hairy legs. Everyone express their vanity in different, obscure ways, but seriously... Sacrificing your comfort and stifling your exercise potential all because your legs are white and sort of hairy.
I though I was goign to read something interesting about exercise. Instead I read about a moral obligation that will most certainly soon change and some whining about fear of shorts in the summer.

Oh David..put some shorts on dude. No one cares what your legs look like! And aren't you the guy that refuses to shower at the gym too, because of privacy issues or something? Must be fun for all the people around you on the way home from the gym too!
All that said, glad you are keeping it up. As you get more fit you will sweat less when doing the cardio (at least, thats what I find).

Wear the shorts...give 'em something to talk about!

You could have your own nickname at the gym now - you could be that pasty white hairy legged guy.

You should be less sensitive about your appearance by now. Everyone else is there for the same reason and I'm sure no-one's fixated on your legs. Wear the shorts - go for comfort -and spend an hour or two in the sun and try to get a little bit of tan there!

I will lend you some self tanning gel!

although that when you are at the gym there are people there that are constantly looking at you and judging your every movement, there is one thing that you should always remember:
no matter how much people look at you, judge you and try to make you uncomfortable, there is that one person wishing that they could do what you do.
\You should always be comfortable with your body and every aspect to your body. Never let someone make you feel that you are less then they are, because then they win. \hold your head up high and you will always be the better person
