The very best in Ontario high school journalism: Toronto Star High School Newspaper Awards
By Roger Gillespie
Every year for the past 15 years, the Toronto Star has sponsored a province-wide competition for budding journalists. We are as proud of the competition as we are of the competitors and this year was no different.
Star reporters, editors, photographers, designers and illustrators judged more than 750 entries in 22 different categories from dozens of high schools across Ontario.
At the awards lunch at the Vaughan Press Centre on May 27 the aspiring journalists were praised by Star community relations director Bob Hepburn for their professionalism.
"Keep on doing that investigative work," Hepburn said. "That's the stuff that counts."
Top prize went to Paniz Moayeri.
The 18-year-old editor in chief of North Toronto Collegiate Institute's Graffiti newspaper was the winner of the Brad Henderson award given to the student who shows "outstanding journalistic potential and strength of character".
