Thirty-six days to go. Not quite fingernail-gnawing time, but for England fan Paul Hucker it's better to be safe than sorry. Hucker says he's taken out a 1-million pound insurance policy to protect himself from psychological trauma.
The mind reels at this untapped market, especially here in Toronto. I've been watching the Leafs for years. Imagine the damage that's caused, and how insurance could've at least eased the suffering.
Anyway, given the news updates on Wayne Rooney, not to mention the lame-duck manager, Hucker may well be on to something. If this is for real, that is:
"I find when it goes to penalty shoot-outs it gets very difficult and I wanted to insure myself against psychological trauma," Hucker said.
In the event of England taking an early plane back from Germany, the insurance company will consult five sports commentators to judge whether the team's elimination was premature.
To get the seven-figure insurance money, Hucker will then have to provide medical evidence showing he has suffered severe mental trauma as a result.
