Australia 3, Japan 1. Japan went ahead on a marginal first half goal, the Aussies waited until the 83rd minute before equalizing then added two more to put it away. This Japan team is worse than I ever imagined, completely evaporating at the end. I can't imagine what the party was like in Sydney, but knowing the Aussies, it's still going on.
Czech Republic 3, United States 0. This U.S. team is worse than I ever imagined, too, outclassed here by the likes of Tomas Rosicky (two goals), Pavel Nedved (ranging all over, and set up Rosicky for his second) and big Jan Koller, who was stretchered off just before halftime and looks in bad shape. DaMarcus Beasley is probably wandering along the Ruhr River as I tap away, trying to find his way to the stadum.
Italy 2, Ghana 0. I didn’t see this one, being on the train. But I did call this one bang-on in the blog. Hurrah for me. Next time, for all my Italian fans, I promise that although I have to cover it, I will try not to watch, in order to keep up the perfect record.
South Korea vs Togo. Togo’s coach quit the other day and then after a three-day holiday came back today. But alas, the Koreans are stuck with Dutchman Dick Advocaat. I’ll be at this one, mainly because it’s in Frankfurt, if this damn train ever gets me there. South Korea 2, Togo 1.
France vs Switzerland. Well-aged French brie against smooth Swiss milk chocolate up against crunchy nuts (Fabien Barthez). Brie or chocolate? Tough choice, lean to a mild upset, so packing Tums. Switzerland 2, France 1.
Brazil vs Croatia. Is Ronaldo fat? Is Brazil overrated and overhyped? Will Dado Prso go swimming in the area? Yes, yes and yes. My pal Cathal Kelly will be at this one and better than me. Croatia 1, Brazil 1.
Quote of the day
“It is a matter of the heart. The FA has decided to chose him against all other candidates. The players have also tried to get him back over the last days and contacted him, which was the decisive step.” Madcap Otto Pfister is back as coach of Togo, as explained by his son Mike. And just in time for that date today against the Koreans.
