The place: Paupers, Bloor east of Bathurst, early evening, Monday night.
The story: While A.J. Burnett is cruising through the lower end of his first run-through the Yankees order on the TV over the bar, a fellow walks up and addresses the bartender. "Can you put the Leafs game on?"
The time: 7:48 p.m.
Postscript: The satellite dish at Paupers wasn't working so, no, there was no Leafs "action." But I've got 7:48 p.m. in the pool for first "Can you put the Leafs game on?" question of the season.
Beat that, kids.

7:48 doesn't even medal at the Blue Goose.
People were asking for Leafs TV at 6:30 last night.

What the heck do you think you were doing out at Paupers having fun when you shoulda been home, hard at work on a live-texter of the Leafs pre-season opener for us el-cheapo Leafs fans who refuse to pay for LeafsTV? Harrumph, Chris. Harrumph.

I work at Mick E Fynn's, directly across from the Gardens. I had people calling us starting last week and up until last night asking about the Leafs game. We had a crowd show up for the game, it's unbelievable.

630pm?!? the day of the first pre-season game!? Terrible. They should have asked for it in time to see the Leafs-Sabres game from April 3, 2006 that was airing before the hour-long pre-game show. Sounds like the Blue Goose has as few true fans as Paupers ;)
And LeafsTV is $2/month. Skip a couple of double-doubles a month and it's paid.

Julian:
I've been a Leafs fan since just before the invention of colour TV but there's no way--none--that I'll give $2.00 a month to MLSE.
Pirates.

I guess it just comes down to how badly you want to follow the team. $2/month is a lot better than out west where the Oilers have 12 (i think) games on PPV at $10/pop...Oh god, I hope no one at MLSE reads that...

Paupers screwed Oilers fans in the playoffs too. A large chunk of the Oilers bloggers, displaced Westerners and various Toronto hangers-on who just wanted to feel alive gathered for G1 when they told us that they weren't showing the game on the big screen. Bastards.
