I don't know what percentage of radio is listened to in our cars.
For me, it is about 100 percent. Music is my life, but I almost never have a radio on in the house.
So I wish the people who write advertisements for radio would stop including ringing telephones as part of the 'plot', such as these things have plots.
Because I am always driving when I hear these things. I think, 'Darn it - who's calling me now?" and I reach for my cell.
Except I KNOW I usually have it switched off. But the sound of a ringing phone, even if it isn't my ring tone (hard to duplicate the sound of an ancient Audivox 8200) turns me into a Pavlovian dog.
Can't you people just have somebody knock on an office door instead of phoning?
Even worse is when ads include sirens!! Or any other traffic related sound effects.
I can't count the number of times I have been on the verge of a reflex-like maneuver in an attempt dodge a phantom emergency vehicle or an assumed car skidding in my direction due to sound effects on the radio.
Advertisers will never willingly stop using these sound effects as they achieve the desired effect... they get your attention! So lawmakers need to recognize the problem and pass legislation banning the use of common traffic sound effects. The sooner the better!

Even hands free cel phones should be banned. Some people cannot concentrate on the call and drive. I had a boss, who if he was on phone, you could set off a bomb and he would not know it.
Business call in particular interfere with driving since you don't want to mess up your career
