The video clip located at:
http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/fastta/?action=view¤t=alprlicplate.flv
shows a demonstration of an automatic licence plate scanning system that appears to allow cops to spot stolen cars, cars with expired registration, etc.
It shows a large chap who I must assume is an undercover RCMP dude in Vancouver, driving his unmarked cruiser around with this system in operation. Sure enough, he finds a car that was reported stolen the day before and was apparently used in an armed robbery shortly thereafter.
Maybe it was a set-up, maybe not.
Either way, the system seems to work.
All well and good. The officer is serving and protecting.
So why the HECK is he not wearing a seat belt in this video??
Drives me nuts.
Some cops say they shouldn't be forced to wear seat belts because their gun might get caught on the belt when they're trying to get out of the car in a hurry.
Right. How easy is it to get out of the car in a hurry if your face gets caught in the windshield?
Come on, boys and girls in blue. Buckling up is as important for you as for anyone. Maybe more so, because you might well be called upon to drive aggressively on short or zero notice.
Not to mention the role model you'll be setting.
As an ex cop it makes me question where did the training go wrong? But on the other hand what responsible CEO would provide company vehicles without Electronic Stability Control. Makes you wonder?

Dave, Dave..... Don't you know that cops are exempt from seatbelt use because they're superhuman and superior to the rest of us? (I believe cab drivers are also exempt, not absolutely sure.) You'll also notice he watches the screen and operates the computer all by himself while driving. But that's because he's better than us. And the police are by far the worst offenders when it comes to cellphone use while driving.
I've seen this video before, also on TV. Your link didn't work for me, but I tracked it down. http://tinyurl.com/q335xb

Hehehe! Everyone knows that all cop cars for the past 20 years have been equipped with the active restraint as shown on Knight Rider's KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand). See, they're not really multi-tasking with the computers but rather communicating with it and instructing it to do all the hard important jobs like vehicle control.
