G8/G20 traffic issues

G8/G20 conferences, earthquakes and tornadoes. Coincidence?... It seems so far anyway, the traffic isn't as bad as they predicted. Now, I didn't venture anywhere near downtown. But at least on my drive into The Big Smoke this (Friday) morning around 11.00 a.m., across the top of the city eastbound on the 401 past the airport, traffic was actually much, MUCH lighter than usual. Perhaps all those dire warnings of desperately congested highways scared everybody off. Perhaps every Torontonian of Italian descent is staying home in mourning for their soccer team. Not-so-Forza Italia this year. Or perhaps the entire GTA has fallen asleep watching World Cup soccer. There was more action in any five-minute span of any of the Stanley Cup final series games than there has been (or will be) during the entire tournament in South Africa. ZZZ-Z-Z-Z... I digress... Whatever the reasons, I hope they still obtain when I'm a bit tight on time driving to the airport for my next press trip.

I commute down the DVP to Eglinton every day. The last two days traffic was the lightest I have ever seen, even less than a Sunday morning. And all for just $1 billion, more effective than the billions squandered on the TTC. Wish we could have these G20 things more often!
