*** OOPS! Looks like this one didn't get posted when I wrote it. Harder to do from my iPhone... ***
Formula Ford has long been not just a training ground for aspiring young racers but also a life-long passion.
Three-time Canadian F-Ford champion Matt White and Canadian army hero Lew McKenzie represented both ends of that spectrum at Montreal this weekend.
White is only running a limited series of events this year. Sponsorship - the Holy Grail for car racers at either end of the grid isn't much easier for winners than for mid-packers - came from GreenField Ethanol, allowing White to dust off last year's championship-winning car for the preliminary races for the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.
He won here last year in a supporting race for the Nationwide NASCAR event.
"But we were 3 seconds [a lap] slower Saturday," he told me. He qualified seventh and finished ninth on Saturday. "We'd do fine in the corners but the guys just blew past on the straights."
He hopes a revised exhaust system will help - I'm off now to watch Race Two now.
I'll let you know!
