Recap: Toronto Maple Leafs v.s. Florida Panthers
That’s more like it!
I just wish the Leafs played that way against Tampa Bay…things would look much, much better for them!
We rolled over the Florida Panthers on Thursday, well, at least offensively – we got outshot badly (34-17) and Reimer stopped every one of them – but by not beating Tampa the night before, the Leafs lost their chance at winning their division or claiming fourth place and home ice advantage.
We’ll now (hopefully) play either Boston or Montreal. What we don’t want is to lose against Montreal on Saturday at the ACC and drop to sixth place. That would mean facing the red-hot Capitals in the first round.
(For the sixth place Capitals scenario to happen, Ottawa would have to win their last two games to kick us out of fifth place. Hope not.)
But back to Thursday’s game. The Leafs played much better than against Tampa, but…..it was Florida! They are the WORST team in the East. Of course we put four goals in for the 4-0 win. That’s expected.
What’s not expected is that horrible shot statistic – I’m still very, very worried how the Leafs will fare in the playoffs if we keep this up. It’s probably my biggest concern as a fan, by far.
And for good reason. We’re third worst in the NHL for shots allowed per game! C’mon boys – help Reimer out.
Kessel, Kadri and Lupul all stepped up Thursday – but again, that’s against Florida. I think our biggest test before the playoffs comes Saturday (well, it is our last game) against Montreal.
If we can keep the shots down, while also performing offensively, to make sure we at least finish in fifth to avoid Washington, I’ll feel way more confident for the PLAYOFFS!
It’s starting to settle in, eh? The Leafs will be playing next week in the PLAYOFFS!
Go Leafs Go. Let’s ensure we face a likely beatable team in the first round. Cheers.
Here's a little rough stuff from the game.
