Photo Gallery: Leafs fans party, watch Game 1 outdoors
You’re forgiven if last night’s turnout confused you – it startled me, too, when I first arrived at Maple Leafs Square, iPhone in hand to capture the spirit of Leafs fans.
Hundreds were gathered to party and watch the Leafs’ first playoff game in nearly a decade on the big screen outside the Air Canada Centre.
The sheer mass of the crowd, combined with its enthusiasm, could have easily fooled anyone into thinking the Leafs had won something, say, a birth to the Stanley Cup finals.
But that wasn’t the case. The Leafs had not won the Eastern Conference finals. They’d simply made it back to the payoffs and fans were overjoyed.
It was a quick, sharp reminder just how passionate Leafs Nation is about the boys in blue – a small victory, making it back to the post-season, was celebrated like, dare I say it, a Stanley Cup victory.
Here’s the first of two photo galleries of my time interacting with fans…next one coming soon...all pics inside the post...Go Leafs Go. Cheers.
