Map: Swine flu in Ontario

Map updated December 12.

This map, created from the most recent swine flu update from the Ministry of Health issued December 11, shows the 8,633 known cases in the province. We now are noting the new cases for the week by region.

RE: "CASH GRAB EVEL GOV'T"

How is it a cash grab if it's free? Just wondering.

The swine flu is all over, the rapid swab test has a 45-60% false negative rate.

Bottom line is there are thousands more cases than reported and it's spreading like wildfire. My entire family has it, my husband's co-woerkers and their families have it...

The reports in the media make the numbers seem SO MUCH lower than they truly are.

I've never seen anything spread so fast, it's crazy.

On that note, our family is not that sick, it's more like a bad chest cold. My Dr. gave me an inhaler and told me to take cold & sinus medication round the clock. I have fluid in one lung, but otherwise it's not nearly as bad as I thought. I've had much worse flu bugs in the past.

The $650 Million dollars being spent in Ontario to protect against H1N1 would cover the operating budgets for 6 hospitals in Ontario for 1 year. This is nothing but the government bowing to mega pharma companies and easy media coverage. Spending our money in an wasteful manner for the sake of good publicity as opposed to doing what is best for the people of this province. I have come to expect no less from all our levels of government.

The confusion is staggering. My husband and I were sick all last week with what I now feel was the 'flu. BUT; we had NO fever. I was sicker than he was - scratchy throat that became a very sore several hours later, which then progressed into two days bouts of intense sneezing and nasal congestion that had me initially convinced I had a cold. By the fourth day though, I became very fatigued, developed a persistent cough and some body mild aches. All in all, I rested and was still able to eat and I took lots of Vitamin D and C. It's been a week now since I got sick and today I feel back to normal.
I did wonder why my son didn't get it along with us, but thinking back to the spring when he and a friend (they attended the same school where there were several cases of it) had a "cold" and weeks of coughing, I'm beginning to think now that he has had it.
I'd really like to know why, when there are reports of cases presenting with no fever (in Mexico it was around 50%) that this fact is not common knowledge? I know from my nurse practitioner that they are only testing the severest cases therefore we have stopped tracking this 'flu then. I'd also like to know did I have the virus because I don't want to have the shot if I now have antibodies.
I honestly feel this whole outbreak is being very poorly managed. For example, I never see anyone stress staying away from the doctor's office so as not to spread the sickness and no one has been promoting phoning in to TeleHealth Ontario, to the best of my knowledge. At least in B.C. I read that doctors are to be paid for dealing with patients by phone.
It's all a sorry mess if you ask me.

We have now heard of the 3rd death of an otherwise healthy teen/preteen in Ontario....Why are our schoolchildren not being given access to this vaccine NOW?!

Population of Canada is 35 million.

Number of flu doses purchased by Fed. Gov't is 50 million.

Why?

50 % of the population will not get the vacine. Leaving 15 million that will.

THIS IS ALL LAUGHABLE.

kill all the pegs and get rid of the flu, simple is that.

The Niagara area isn't doing blood tests to confirm h1n1. There are 20 more times the number of cases out there than what is actually confirmed. There are 60 kids sick at my daughters school - but no confirmed cases. That is because they aren't testing.

our own system should fight flue, not the vaccine. vaccine essentialy contains a virus mized with otehr staff then sprayed into your blood.
This is just a FLUE. yes. most of the people will get swine flue, so what. Majority of population gets flue at least once in a while..
This is all Crap

Most experts say that the only way the H1N1 virus can go inside your body is through the mouth, nose and eyes(?). I'm just wondering, if this is TRUE then why not require everybody to wear MASK and some kind of eye protection instead of spending millions of dollars for vacination (not everybody wants it anyway). The logic is if the VIRUS H1N1 cannot go inside our body then we can't infect anybody. Maybe the virus will self destruct if it can't find a host.

Brant County is only reporting 9 cases but as of today my (3) kids' Brantford school is now reporting symptoms to Brantford Health Unit as almost half of the school is away with symptoms. I have 4 kids, 3 are sick with classic H1 symptoms as am I. I also know of at least 9 other children with the exact symptoms with varying severity.
Thanks for this map, it's too bad they aren't really keeping track of this virus and how many people are truly sick with it

these numbers are incorrect but there is no way really to tell how many cases of h1n1 going around because they are only testing critically ill people, but 80% of the flu that is going around in ontario is h1n1. some one really need to recess this map and fix it because there is a real pandemic going on in the emergency rooms and health clinics around Ontario.

If you read enough articles you will find that the elderly are dying in large numbers also. They just aren't tested. I am a trained nurse off on stress leave now for 5 yrs. and considering returning. Fear is holding me back. The health care in general is so disorganized and broken its heart breaking. Hospitals are nursing homes now and there are many errors due to staff burn out and lack off team spirit. I was appalled when SARS second wave took off. There were 22-27 nurses agreeing that an outbreak was in effect. First to get that many nurses to agree on anything should have been the first sign because that many nurses don't agree on anything. Secondly who listens to nurses although we are now highly trained in many areas, who do you want a shot from?Drs. who rarely do shots or nurses that do it all the time.We are the ones that catch Drs mistakes in orders usually pharmacticl calculations (these guys are overworked also) why are nurses emptying bedpans when we have very well trained health care aides for half the price which could extend to sanitation issues. There are LPN's I would rather have than some RN's and the new RN'S with bachlor degrees hardly have any training on the floor with patients even though it takes them 4 years to graduate. We were on the floor within the first month for 2 days a week and patients wonder why nurses are stressed. During the SARS outbreak the nurse that died died because another employee stole her masks .I bet they still have a shortage of the proper masks. Nothing was learned. Why aren't the H1N1 shots given @ clinics with regular visits. Where I live both clinics within 60 kms.are held in highschools.I know people want smaller class sizes but this is a pretty extreme way of getting them. There is very little consideration given to nurses by the public or doctors that have to deal with these viruses for a 8 or 12 hour shift. Would you go to work every day knowing that the only thing you'll deal with are deadly viruses and angry people and crying children?I'll end here and before you consider nursing as a career remember 24hr days 7 days a week usually without benefits so you have 2 jobs, last calls on holidays, and the expense because bachlor degrees don't mean squat at the end you spend as much as becoming a doctor or lawyer($400 an hour)nurses are being involved in more lawsuits. If a doctor draws up an injection and the nurse gives it guess who gets sued.

Great map....but it's 2 weeks old. It's useful if not updated, isn't it ?

How do they know it was the swine flu? Doctor's were ordered to stop testing to verify via blood test- just go by symptoms. So we have no real data to justify the vast amount or resources spent on this "pandemic" I also believe that the definition of pandemic was changed by the WHO from easily spread and deadly to just easily spread. Since it is the law that governments declare an emergency and provide vaccines when a pandemic occurs this means that any flu no matter how innocuous gets funding for a vaccine for the general population. I beleive this is the situation and this may not be accurate but I have read of this and it would be a good story for a reporter to follow up on since it represents a real winfall for pharmacutical industry that makes them.
