This week’s map looks at dog ownership in the City of Toronto by postal code.

Information showing the breed of the dog and the first three characters of the postal code of the owner was released recently under access-to-information laws, and is current to mid-November.

This is the second time I have mapped Toronto dog ownership – breed-by-breed maps from the last iteration (using 2008 data) are here.

The map shows three areas where dog ownership is high:

The east end lakeshore generally, extending into southwest Scarborough, centred on the Beaches;

The Yonge St. corridor south of the 401;

High Park and areas of Etobicoke near the lakeshore and Humber Valley.

The city generally north of the 401 has low dog ownership rates.

This week, we look at spending on golf by census tract.

Within Toronto, high golf spending is centred in the high-income corridor along Yonge St., especially Rosedale and the neighbourhoods centred on the Bridle Path, and the Kingsway. In the 905, high rates are found in shoreline Oakville, Port Credit, Kleinburg and King Township.

Ten census tracts had average annual household golf spending over $1,000:

Map of the Week: Home schooling in Toronto

This week, we look at home-schooled pupils in Toronto. The Toronto District School Board knows of almost exactly 500. The data was obtained from them through an access-to-information request. The map shows home-schooled pupils as a percentage of the population aged 5-18, by postal area.

The map shows a strong concentration of home-schoolers in the downtown core, with a pocket along the Danforth west of Coxwell.

Here are the top five postal areas:

M4Y	Church/Wellesley
M5E	St. Lawrence
M5V	West downtown, Niagara
M4J	East Riverdale/mid-East York
M5G	Yonge/College/University/Queen
