The road to Mecca
And so it begins.
After three continents, six cities, and three flights, I'm on my way to Mecca. Will keep this blog post brief.
As of right now the plan is to go from here to a place called Dhu'l Hulaifah. It's one of Mecca's official entry points, where pilgrims are expected to don their "ihram" (white pilgrim's clothing) before officially entering the city. It's like some sort of spiritual border crossing. There's apparently a state of the art mosque there with showers, change rooms, etc. Hoping to take some photos there (should be after dark when we arrive).
Will have to go from there to Jeddah. To help control traffic, no cars are allowed into Mecca during the Hajj season, hopefully I can hitch a ride on a bus heading there. Best case scenario, I get to Mecca around 10pm tonight.
Wish me luck.
