What the volunteers ate

Win or lose at the polls, John Gray’s volunteers can’t complain they didn’t eat well. Here’s a sampling of the spread in the incumbent Oshawa mayor’s campaign office: pulled pork, chicken wings, hearty but unidentifiable soup, noodles from the Philippines, a lemon-meringue dessert, banana bread, zucchini bread, brownies, squares, veggies and dip – well, you get the idea.

It’s been like that every day since the office opened several weeks ago, says Gray’s wife, Bonnie. Supporters, restaurants and caterers just keep baking and cooking and sending the stuff over.

“You have to look after your volunteers,” says Bonnie.
