Parliament Hill's anonymous witticist - the person (or persons?) who noodles away on the Peace Tower chimes at lunch time - weighed in once again yesterday as the increasingly embattled Conservatives gathered for a second caucus meeting in three days.
The carillon - which played "Send in the Clowns" on the day U.S. President George W. Bush visited in 2004 - banged out a groovy version of the Simon and Garfunkel classic "Bridge Over Troubled Water" as the Tory MPs broke for lunch.
It's been a less-than-smooth first week for the Conservatives, what with the controversy surrounding the Senate appointment and the high-profile defection of erstwhile Liberal minister David Emerson.
