Layton launches campaign

With the sun breaking through on a grey September day, NDP Leader Jack Layton spoke only in French for the first several minutes as he launched his campaign along the banks of the Ottawa River. His backdrop was the Parliament building.

Giving his speech first in French was not lost on observers who know that Layton is pushing hard to raise the party's fortunes in La Belle Province.
