Drain design
I met recently with Dinu Pilip of ACO Systems in Canada, a company that makes a very clever drain system that opens up a world of design possibilities and makes showers more accessible for disabled homeowners or elderly people with mobility issues.
Pilip showed me the QuARTz, a linear shower channel that’s compatible with different floor structures and can be positioned anywhere within the base of the shower; as a threshold, flush with the floor or against a wall so it blends seamlessly into the design.
I’ll have more in an upcoming Hot Home Products column, but I couldn’t resist giving you a sneak peek pic, and a link to a demo video.

Does the drain come with that rainbow light?!

The ACO drain can be ordered with a LED light kit which consists of a charging unit and two lights. The lights install to the grate body and need charging about once every 3 months. The lights are available in Red, Blue, Green or Rainbow.
I have worked with these lights and found that the first charge needs about 18 hours to reach a full charge. The installation of the lights is fast and can be done in under 5 minutes.
This is a fun option and my kids have been pushing hard for the "Red" ones...
Send me an email if you have any other questions about these lights or would like a translated copy of the German instructions...
