Outdoor elegance - at any price
This week’s Hot Home Products column included some affordable options for outdoor decor. But it’s always nice to dream, so I’m sharing this gorgeous multi-level, Mediterranean-style outdoor space, part of a 7,000-square-foot home in Oakton, Va. designed by Michael Nash Custom Homes. The homeowners are avid entertainers (no kidding!) who host small, impromptu gatherings and large parties of 100 or more guests.
Coming back down to earth now! There are lots of little ways to add a touch of luxe to an outdoor space. I suggested that a pile of comfy cushions will help any outdoor furniture. I like the pattern and textures of this grouping made with Sunbrella fabrics — and they can handle outdoor elements and remain looking fresh.
Lanterns can enhance evenings outdoors and there are tons to choose from this season, including the ones shown below, all of which come from Urban Barn.
For a quick and easy outdoor meal, melt a brie that you’ve sprinkled with Herbes de Provence (which I notice is now for sale at HomeSense!) Add a fresh tomato and basil salad, artisnal bread, and serve with my favourite (affordable) rose, La Vielle Ferme Cotes du Ventoux. It’s about $11 a pop, but it’s not that easy to find, so if you see it, snap up a few bottles. Trust me, you'll like it.
