Both boys hopped in the tub for the first time in a while last night. Cameron, 8, has moved on to showers, but I asked him to bath with Alister last night.
Alister: "We're TWO NAKED brothers!!!!!"
Cameron: "I'm only here to save water."

We hung out in our basement for a while last night during the peak of the thundershowers. Maybe it wasn't strictly necessary but my eldest child was concerned the tornado watch would escalate to a full-blown tornado warning.
Mostly to assure Cam we were doing everything we needed to do, I actually took his sleeping little brother out of his bed and carried him down for a visit with the lovely people who rent our basement apartment - our former nanny and her husband.
Alister ended up sleeping down there and came up the stairs bright-eyed and bushy tailed this morning, announcing that he slept in the basement "because of the potato warnings."

Cameron, 8, walking home from school while talking about consumption rates and air pollution:
"If we keep going like this, in 20 years, we're going to need five more Earths."
(Pause.)
"Someone should make a public service announcement about that."

Cameron, 7.5, has already hit that stage when he doesn't want any sort of embarrassing kiss or hug goodbye on the playground (*sob*). Now I'm lucky if I can get a nanosecond of eye contact before he runs into the school. He's a loving boy, but he doesn't want his 3-yr-old brother's many declarations of affection to get too mushy or embarrassing either. So Cam has been meeting Alister's "I love yous" with various iterations of "ditto."
Alister: "I love you, Mom."
Cameron: "I say that too."
Alister: "I love you, Cameron."
Cameron: "Same thing expressed previously."

Cameron, 7, after I got two parking tickets totalling $100 in the space of 90 minutes yesterday.
"Well, maybe if it happened two times it's a lesson! Don't do it again."

Comparing bicep muscles after I got home from bootcamp last night, Cameron said, "I don't know if I can make a visual muscle like that."
Me: "As your muscles get bigger, they'll be more visual."
Cam, switching sides: "Maybe this is my good arm."

When I was tucking him in last night, Cameron asked me, "How come in some families the mommies don't work?" That part sort of sucked for me, with the explaining that I get money for going to work, that I like my job, but that, of course, I like spending time with him and his brother better.
After a little discussion about how 7 out of 10 mommies does paid work outside of the house, and how yes, I know he likes "home work" better (the kind where mom works on a computer at the house), he had this little gem to say:
"Well, there's one thing I understand about grown-up work in the news business at the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail. They don't want stories that they others have."
That's my boy.
